These shoulder bags are made by the Wayúu women from the Guajira area in northern Colombia, who through their designs seek to represent an endless list of elements that compose nature and the environment: animals, stars, paths, and footprints, amongst others.
There is a legend that says a spider called "Wale’kerü” taught the first women how to knit. However, this artisan affirms that their ancestors were the ones who established the importance of knitting for females in their society.
