Nest Hammock
The origins of the hammock go back to the Arawak tribe, and its tradition spread throughout the northern part of South America when the Spaniards colonized it. An item ideal for easy transport and then used for resting, it has an aerial design in order to avoid crawling animals. It was also used to carry the sick and to mourn those who had passed away.
This tradition was passed on to the Zenú tribe, ancestors of those people whose towns today comprise the “Artisanal Route” in Colombia: Morroa, Sampues, Corozal, Sincelejo and San Jacinto.
